About the Blend

coffee sample v21024_1

The 3thrifty5 house blend is the product emerging from the collaboration of numerous Johannesburg creatives and coffee-heads. Gruelling tasting sessions, roasts (of the mean and bean kind) and discourse led to a blend incorporating the intensity of Zimbabwe, smoothness of Costa Rica and the sweet caramel of Colombia. The final product is perfect for the budding coffee connoisseur, the over-worked student, the well-dressed intern and the Arabica-aficionado alike. The three beans are roasted together, in our secret blend, to create a well-bodied brew reflecting the diversity and richness of Jozi with the intensity and memorability of a well pieced outfit.

The coffee beans came from sustainable, community focused and passionate suppliers from all over the world and what once was a collaboration between farmer and community has now become that of the Johannesburg social scene; a scene that is populated by hungry youths choosing not the road untaken, but their own path to success. Joburg is a city beating with the heart of Africa and its veins are filled with the influence and inspiration of Europe and America, the youth are creative and they are driven. They are the future and the future is being written by ethically consuming, aware and conscious consumers of clout. We offer the new generation of trend setters a space, a closet and a coffee experience in which to socialise, flex and network.

Coffee is grown at high elevations of between 1220 and 1600 metres above sea level. Cultivation takes place between August and march and what emerges from the rich organic volcanic soil is a well-rounded coffee with just the right acidity. Good farming practices are a constant in this area of micro-climates and deep reverence for agriculture, the land is rotated to cherries in the off-season. These beans add instant intensity, a soft and buttery mouthfeel and are roasted medium to dark.
